HISTORY OF KUANTAN MALAYALEE SAMAJAM
Kuantan Malayalee Samajam began as a vision in the fertile minds of a few Malayalees who were the permanent residents of Kuantan in the late sixties, when they met on and off, socially during cultural occasions, specifically during ‘Onam” celebration. This vision metamorphosed into a mission and the formation of the Kuantan Malayalee Samajam was realized.
The late Sreeman K.Sethu initiated the first step to the idea of forming Kuantan Malayalee Samajam and a meeting of Kuantan Malayalees to form the samajam was held at Sultan Abdullah School, Kuantan on the 1st of July 1979. Sreeman K.Sethu was unanimously elected as the Pro-team chairman at that time.
The Samajam was officially registered on 21st October 1980 and the late Sreeman K.Sethu was the first President of the Samajam.

The samajam is indeed very much indebted to Sreeman K.Sethu and quite a number of other pioneer Malayalees who are not in our midst now , but their enthusiasm and tireless service to the samajam are remembered nostalgically by some of the elder members who continue to propagate the spirit of ‘Keralatism’ in the minds of modern generation of Malayalees in Kuantan.
On 28th Dec 2014 KMS, under the leadership of its President Mr Keasevan Nair managed to purchase a building in the centre of Kuantan town by utilising its building fund and contributions from generous donors. The bulding has been rented out and generating income for the association since then. The President and his members in the samajam are committed in carrying out the vision and mission that began in 1979.
In 2020 KMS amended its emblem. Samajam’s new Emblem consists of 5 elements of nature contained in a blue triangular shaped structure. Sea symbolizing water, cloud symbolizing air, sun symbolizing fire, sand symbolizing earth & sky symbolizing space. The triangle pointing up represent stability and progress. The coconut tree, boat and kathakali in the emblem are the symbols of Malayalee Culture. The beach scene depicted in the emblem also represents the famous beaches of Kuantan.
